About Our Name

The name “Nagasimha Mandir” is Sanskrit and has three components.

“Naga” means Great Serpent or dragon.

“Simha” means lion.

“Mandir” means temple.

Put together, Nagasimha Mandir means the temple of the lion and serpent united, or the Great Lion-Headed Serpent.

The Serpent body signifies personal power (personal Shakti). You may have already been exposed to the idea of the personal Shakti, which is also known as the Kundalini—the serpentine energy coiled at the base of the spine, which resides in the first chakra. It is a spark of the Divine Shakti, the power that created the Universe.

The Lion head signifies the Eternal and True High Self, or personal Truth. The True Self is a spark of Divine Consciousness, which resides in the seventh chakra.

Each one of us is born with a purpose or mission that we came here to embody and fulfill. This is not given to us by some external power, but chosen by our own High Self. We call this the True Will. Self actualization is the enactment of that True Will.

However, in this present age, which the Hindu sages call Kali Yuga, or the Dark Age, the inherent condition of human beings is for the personal Shakti and the spark of Divine Consciousness (the True Self) to exist in a state of separation. This is a condition of fundamental disempowerment, because Power separated from the True Self becomes misappropriated by the lower egoic self, and squandered. While the True Self, separated from Power, is inert and cannot actualize.

But, it is possible to consciously and deliberately unite Power and Truth. When that happens, personal Power becomes yoked to the True Will, making actualization possible.

This state of union is signified by the Great Serpent joining with the Lion, as seen in our logo, to show that Power must always serve Truth. This union is the Nagasimha.

The place where the union forms is the heart chakra, which is its Temple, or Mandir.

Therefore, Nagasimha Mandir is the heart place where you can unite your personal Power with your True Self, a process toward which it is our mission to guide you, probably faster than you ever imagined possible.
